Welcome to UChicago SPS!
We are a group of students pursuing studies, research, and a further understanding in the most fundamental science: physics. As the undergraduate students of one of the most prominent research institutions in the world, we seek to expand on our love of physics through events including faculty lectures, trips to national labs, research symposia, and breakfasts with colloquium speakers. And eat pizza.
View this presentation to see what the Society of Physics Students is all about. Created by Ariel Matalon (President 2014-16 ).

This summer he's working for MIT's TOPS (Teaching Opportunities in Physical Sciences). The program attracts physics undergraduates interested in pre-collegiate teaching. originaldate 1/1/0001 6:00:00 AM width 787 height 960 Sean Colin-Ellerin Sean is a rising fourth year math major. He is working with Professor Jeff Harvey on a subject called Moonshine, which explores a connection between string theory and certain fields of mathematics. originaldate 1/1/0001 6:00:00 AM width 2048 height 1365 Sam Gilbert Sam is a rising fourth year physics major. She worked at Columbia University's Nevis Laboratories with the VERITAS/CTA group. They study very high energy gamma rays in order to shed light on inter- and extra-galactic phenomena like dark matter and supernova remnants. originaldate 1/1/0001 6:00:00 AM width 490 height 578 David Jin David is a rising 2nd year Physics major. This summer he's working for Fermilab in the international CMS Collaboration, using data from the LHC to search for natural Supersymmetry and a theorized dark matter decay process. originaldate 1/1/0001 6:00:00 AM width 784 height 960 Rohan Dandavati Rohan is a rising second year physics major. This summer he is working with Professor Maureen Coleman, in the Department of Geophysical Sciences, analyzing sets of water quality and microbiological data from the Great Lakes. originaldate 1/1/0001 6:00:00 AM width 745 height 930 Jessica Peña Jessica is a rising fourth year physics major. This summer, she worked in an Air Force Research Lab in Albuquerque doing research in plasma physics. originaldate 1/1/0001 6:00:00 AM width 960 height 720 Jonathan Sorce Jon is a rising fourth-year math major. This summer, he is working with Professor Robert Wald in the classical theory of black holes. originaldate 1/1/0001 6:00:00 AM width 2048 height 1365 Erin Glynn Erin is a rising third year physics major specializing in astrophysics.
